STRATA
BUILDING THINGS THAT LAST
STRATA is an outdoor brand founded on the belief that climbing gear should be durable, high-performing, and thoughtfully made, with respect for the landscapes that shape us.
Backed by decades on rock and deep manufacturing experience, STRATA was born at the intersection of climbing and precision composite engineering. Built inside a manufacturing shop, every product reflects a commitment to responsible materials, long-lasting design, and purposeful performance.
STRATA is more than gear. It’s a reflection of a team’s dedication, a family’s love of adventure, and decades of engineering excellence, built to help you push your limits.

WHO WE ARE
JOHN GROTH
Born in the Midwest, John discovered climbing at Devil’s Lake as a member of the DLFA, where his passion for the outdoors and craftsmanship began to take shape. He later moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he founded Southwest Composite Works more than 30 years ago.
John came up in an era where craftsmanship, hands-on problem solving, and precision were at the heart of manufacturing. A master toolmaker and lifelong outdoor enthusiast, he has spent decades climbing around the world while building a career creating high-performance composite components for demanding industries.

SARAH GROTH
Sarah is a maker, climber, and artist.
Born and raised in New Mexico, Sarah grew up climbing at crags around the world and developed a deep connection to the landscapes, people, and creativity that define the climbing community. That passion has shaped her journey and inspired her to create products that reflect the values she cares about most: thoughtful design, sustainability, and performance.
As a lifelong climber and creative, Sarah brings together her background in art, communication, and outdoor culture to help bring STRATA to life. Alongside her father John, she is building a brand rooted in craftsmanship, innovation, and a belief that climbing gear should be durable, high-performing, and thoughtfully made.
HUNTER CORLISS
Hunter is a climber, skier, and lifelong tinkerer with a passion for the outdoors and building things. His connection to the outdoor world began during a NOLS course in high school, which inspired him to pursue outdoor leadership and mountain guiding in Moab throughout college.
After earning his Master’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on outdoor products, Hunter moved to Albuquerque with his wife, Jordan, and became part of the local climbing community. His passion for climbing, product development, and the outdoor industry led him to Southwest Composite Works, where he joined the team to help bring John and Sarah’s vision for STRATA to life.
Hunter brings a unique blend of outdoor experience, business insight, creative problem-solving, and a growing expertise in design and manufacturing. He is excited to help build durable, thoughtfully designed products that support climbers and the future of the sport.
