Proudly Operating in New Mexico

1994

Southwest Pattern Works Founded

John Groth opens Southwest Pattern Works in Albuquerque, NM, specializing in the design and production of molds and molded products. With a team of experienced journeyman pattern makers, machinists, and engineers, the company built a reputation for precision and reliability in tooling for the foundry, composites, and molded component industries. 


2000s

Expanding Capabilities

Through steady growth and investment in CNC machining and CAD/CAM technology, Southwest Pattern Works expanded its capabilities, delivering high-quality, value-added tooling and equipment to customers across diverse manufacturing sectors.


2014

Southwest Composite Works Established

Building on decades of tooling expertise, John Groth founded Southwest Composite Works. The new company brought carbon fiber and advanced composite technology to Albuquerque, extending the legacy of craftsmanship into lightweight, high-performance materials.


2016

Entering Outdoor Recreation & Bicycle Industry

Leveraging successes with U.S. bicycle companies, such as HIA Velo, SWC expanded into the U.S. based bicycle and outdoor recreation market. This move enabled the company to apply its composite expertise to high-performance products for outdoor enthusiasts, including bikes, packs, and other recreation applications, as well as specialized bike frame repair and reinforcement.


2017

Strengthening Ties with National Labs

Building on a strong foundation of trust and technical expertise, SWC deepened its collaboration with New Mexico’s National Laboratories, including Sandia National Lab. This partnership reinforced SWC’s commitment to precision engineering, advanced materials research, and high-quality domestic manufacturing.


2020

Moving to a New Facility

SWC expanded into a 15,000-square-foot facility at 509 General Chennault, SE, Albuquerque, NM nearly tripling its previous footprint. The move supported growing business demands and enabled the company to scale its capabilities in compression molding, carbon fiber forging, and advanced composite manufacturing.


2022

Achieving ITAR Compliance

SWC became ITAR compliant, strengthening the company’s ability to protect sensitive technology and intellectual property. This compliance enhances client trust, operational security, and credibility, ensuring that SWC can collaborate confidently with partners across industries that value innovation and confidentiality.


2025

Joining the High Performance Council of ACMA

SWC became a member of the High Performance Council of the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA), gaining a seat at the table for the composites industry. This membership provides access to industry knowledge, networking opportunities, and strategic influence, helping SWC maintain a competitive edge while shaping the future of high-performance composites.
